Cigarettes smoking at home ban proposal

On 14 December, 2009, in News reviews, by Nick Vassilev

I have been listening to the latest discussions on the radio about banning people from smoking at home, in their cars etc. I believe it is not going to be possible to enforce this ban. I like the idea, it is a great idea to have a smoke free environment, but on the other hand people’s privacy is king.

I subscribe to the school of thoughts that all problems can be sorted if one gets to the source of the problem. In this case the source of the problem is the strong cigarette manufacturers lobby. Ban the production of cigarettes and Bob’s your uncle :) . I wish it was that easy. The government must be getting a huge chunk of the money smokers pay for a box of cigarettes, in order to keep this thing going for decades!!! If they are so concerned about the health of millions of Britons, why do they allow cigarettes that kill people to be freely available in every shop?

I understand the solution is not that simple as it looks, but at least thinking about banning cigarettes manufacturing is a step in the right direction.
