UK cleaning company Cleanevent received complaints from their staff for being accommodated in a stable during the Oxegen music festival. A female cleaner, Ms Mendes told a radio station that she was disgusted… upon arrival at the festival after being shown the place to sleep. There were only 20 beds for the 30 Polish and Portugese cleaning operatives and air beds were urgently delivered, according to Ms Mendes.
The company denied the above allegations and stated that the stable was converted and refurbished with the required modern cons to cater for the cleaning staff. It also denied allegations that the cleaners were hungry. More than 40% on top of the normal meal allocations were booked in order to provide food for everybody.
The company confirmed the lack of enough beds and blamed a contractor who delayed the delivery.
The promoters say that the cleaning company is responsible for the cleaners’ accommodation and food.
As in most cases every story has at least two sides but I reckon the cleaning company has experienced severe staff shortages for that event. Houston, we have a problem!
