Cleaning a Greenwich Home Is Its Own Job

Few London boroughs have such a mix of housing. Georgian houses near the park, interwar semis in Eltham and new glass towers along the river each need cleaning differently, and the hard south-east London water affects all of them.

Hard water and limescale

The water supplied to this side of the Thames is very hard. Taps, shower screens, kettles and the glass panels in new-build bathrooms cloud over within days, so we descale on every visit rather than letting it build into a crust.

Houses by the park and heath

In Greenwich town and Blackheath, tall Georgian and Victorian houses come with sash runners, cornicing, tiled paths and four or five flights of stairs. Dust collects on every ledge, so our cleaners work carefully from the top floor down without damaging original detail.

Riverside apartments

On Greenwich Peninsula and at Royal Arsenal, floor-to-ceiling glazing shows every fingerprint and balconies collect grime blowing in off the river. These flats rarely have space for a vacuum and mop, so we bring our own equipment and arrange fob access with the concierge.

Busy weeks, muddy weekends

Commuters on the Elizabeth line, DLR and Jubilee line and families in Eltham and Kidbrooke rarely have a free evening, and walks on the heath bring mud through the hall. A regular slot keeps the house in order, whatever kind of week you’ve had.

Booking takes a minute online or one phone call, and from then on the same cleaner comes to your home on the same day each week or fortnight.

Cleaning Company or Cash-in-Hand Cleaner?

A cash-in-hand cleaner can look cheaper per hour, but the homeowner usually carries the risk if something is broken, the cleaner doesn’t turn up, or keys go missing.

What Greenwich Customers Say

★★★★★ Trustpilot 5.0 from 452 reviews · Google 4.7 from 361 reviews

Weekly clean
“Two children, a spaniel and a walk across Eltham Park every morning, so the hall floor never stood a chance. Our cleaner comes every Tuesday, knows which rooms need the most attention and has the house in order by lunchtime. It’s the one thing in the week I don’t have to plan.”

Fiona B. · Dunvegan Road, Eltham, SE9

Weekly clean
“Our flat on the Peninsula has glass from floor to ceiling and a balcony that catches everything blowing in off the river. The cleaner brings all the equipment, signs in with the concierge, and the windows and shower screen never look smeary now.”

Olu D. · Cutter Lane, Greenwich Peninsula, SE10

Fortnightly clean
“Three of us share a terrace near Charlton station and the kitchen used to be a constant argument. Now it’s cleaned properly every other week and we split the cost. When I needed to move a visit, the office changed it the same afternoon.”

Megan C. · Delafield Road, Charlton, SE7

Fortnightly clean
“Before Anyclean we went through two cleaners who kept cancelling. Our Victorian house has three floors of stairs and plenty of skirting, and it’s been done thoroughly every fortnight for more than a year. Setting it up took one phone call.”

Andrew S. · Ripon Road, Woolwich, SE18

Domestic Cleaning in Greenwich: Your Questions Answered

Clear answers to the questions customers across the borough ask before booking a regular cleaner.

The water in Greenwich is very hard. How do you keep limescale under control?

South-east London has some of the hardest water in the country, and it leaves a chalky film on taps, shower screens, tiles and toilet bowls within days. A little descaling on every visit stops it hardening into a crust that needs stronger chemicals and more time. We use descalers that are safe for chrome, enamel and glass, and gentler products on natural stone, which acid can etch. If you have a frameless shower screen, a quick squeegee after each shower between our visits makes a noticeable difference.

Do you clean period houses in Greenwich town and Blackheath?

Yes, and they make up a large share of our regular work. Many homes near the park and around the heath are listed or in conservation areas, with original floorboards, encaustic tiles, marble fireplaces and painted joinery. Your cleaner uses products suited to each surface, and on the first visit you can point out anything that needs special care or should be left alone.

How do you work out how many hours I need?

We start with the number of bedrooms and bathrooms, then ask about the things that add time: stairs, pets, children, a home office or a large kitchen. A two-bedroom flat typically needs around three hours a week, and a family house more. If the first few visits show your home needs more or less time, we adjust the booking so you only pay for the hours that are actually needed.

Can I change what gets cleaned from one visit to the next?

Yes. Your cleaner works through a standard checklist, but you can swap priorities whenever you like, for example asking for the oven or the inside of the fridge one week and ironing the next. Leave a note, send a message to the office or tell your cleaner in person, and the change is made on the next visit.

Can you clean a home with pets?

Yes. Many of our customers have dogs or cats, and pet hair on sofas, stairs and skirting is part of a normal visit. Let us know about your pets when you book, including whether they need to be kept in a particular room and any products to avoid, and we’ll make sure your cleaner knows before they arrive.

Should I book a deep clean before regular visits start?

If your home hasn’t been professionally cleaned for a while, it often makes sense. A one-off deep clean deals with built-up limescale, grease behind appliances and dust on high surfaces, so your regular cleaner can keep things at that standard instead of spending the first few visits catching up. It isn’t required, and we’ll tell you honestly whether it’s worth it after the initial assessment.
