What Happens on the Day

Typical drying time: up to 6 hours

  1. Survey

We check the fibre, fitting and condition of each carpet and note any stains before we start. Furniture legs go onto protective pads and door frames are guarded.

  2. Pre-treat

Dry soil is vacuumed out first, because water turns it to mud. A pre-spray matched to wool or synthetic fibre is applied and agitated in.

  3. Hot water extraction

Remaining spots are treated individually, then the carpet is rinsed and extracted at controlled heat. A citrus deodoriser goes in with the final rinse.

  4. Dry and finish

An air mover is left running to speed up drying and the pile is groomed in one direction. Scotchgard goes on now if you’ve asked for it.

What Wandsworth Customers Say

★★★★★ Trustpilot 5.0 from 452 reviews · Google 4.7 from 361 reviews

Carpet cleaning
“Red wine on a beige living room carpet, two days before guests arrived. The technician tested the fibre first, treated the stain and cleaned the whole room. You honestly can’t tell where it was.”

Natalie W. · Bellevue Road, SW17

Stairs + landing
“Three flights of carpet in our Balham terrace, and the hallway had gone grey from years of school runs. They cleaned the stairs and landings in one morning, and the colour is back to what we chose.”

Edward C. · Ramsden Road, SW12

Rug + pet odour
“Our spaniel had made the hallway rug and bedroom carpet smell like a kennel. The odour treatment got right into the backing, and they rang ahead about parking so they weren’t late.”

Sophie L. · Disraeli Road, SW15

Cleaning Carpets Across Wandsworth

Most of the homes we clean in Wandsworth are Victorian and Edwardian terraces, and their carpets work hard. Hallways and stairs take the brunt of buggies, bikes and muddy trips in from the garden, and many houses still have a wool runner climbing two or three flights, held with rods or grippers and wearing first on the nosings. We clean these in place with a pre-spray suited to wool, so the pile keeps its colour and doesn’t shrink, and treat each landing as part of the same job.

Alongside the houses there’s a lot of flat living: red-brick mansion blocks facing the commons, conversions with a shared hallway and no lift, larger estates in Roehampton, and new riverside developments with concierge desks and fitted carpet throughout. Before any water goes down, we check the fibre, how the carpet is fitted and how we’ll get our equipment in, then choose the method that suits it.

Access and parking

Most residential streets in the borough sit inside controlled parking zones, with hours that vary from one zone to the next, and busy roads such as Northcote Road and Tooting High Street have tight loading restrictions.

When you book, we’ll ask whether you can provide a visitor permit, or arrange a bay suspension for larger jobs. If the van can’t park close, or you live on an upper floor, we carry a portable extraction unit upstairs instead of running hoses from the street.

Balham

Around the Nightingale Triangle and the roads off Balham High Road, large Edwardian family houses often have wool runners on long staircases and pale carpets in the main rooms. We clean stairs and landings in one visit and lift everyday spills before they set.

Carpet cleaning in Balham

Battersea

Mansion blocks along Prince of Wales Drive sit beside Victorian terraces near Clapham Junction and newer flats at Nine Elms. For apartment buildings, we agree lift use, concierge access and parking with building management before the day.

Carpet cleaning in Battersea

Putney

Riverside apartments near Putney Bridge, Edwardian houses around Putney Hill and larger homes towards the Heath often have fine wool carpets and rugs. We test dyes before we start and use a gentler, low-moisture clean on rugs that need it.

Carpet cleaning in Putney

Tooting

The long terraces between Tooting Bec and Tooting Broadway include many shared houses and rented flats, so carpets take heavy wear. End-of-tenancy cleans, stain removal and deodorising before new tenants move in are what we’re asked for most.

Carpet cleaning in Tooting

Earlsfield

Earlsfield’s terraces off Garratt Lane are mostly family homes, many with loft conversions that add a third flight of stairs. We clean every flight and landing in one go, carrying compact kit up by hand where staircases are narrow.

Carpet cleaning in Earlsfield

Southfields

The Edwardian terraces of the Southfields Grid, between Wimbledon Park Road and Merton Road, have hall and stair carpets that see constant family traffic. Extra parking restrictions apply during the Wimbledon Championships, so we plan visits around them.

Carpet Cleaning in Wandsworth: Your Questions Answered

Clear answers on preparation, pets, wool carpets and local access, so you know exactly what to expect before booking.

Can you remove pet stains and odours rather than just masking them?

Yes, in most cases. Pet accidents soak through to the backing and underlay, which is where the smell lingers. We locate the affected areas, apply an enzyme treatment that breaks down the source of the odour, and then extract it along with the dirt. Older or repeated stains can leave some discolouration, and we’ll tell you honestly before we start if we think that’s likely.

Do I need to move furniture before you arrive?

Clear away small items such as toys, plants, ornaments and anything stored under beds. Our technicians will move lighter furniture like chairs, side tables and coffee tables, then put it back once the carpet is done. Heavy pieces such as wardrobes, pianos and fully loaded bookcases usually stay where they are, and we clean carefully around them.

Will cleaning shrink or damage a wool carpet or rug?

Not when it’s done properly. Wool can brown, shrink or lose colour if it’s cleaned with the wrong products or too much water, so we check the fibre and test the dyes on a hidden spot first. We then use solutions suitable for wool and control the moisture throughout. Delicate or hand-knotted rugs get a gentler, low-moisture clean.

Can you protect my carpets after cleaning?

Yes. Once the carpet is clean, we can apply a protective treatment that helps the fibres resist spills and makes everyday marks easier to blot up. It’s especially worth it for pale carpets, hallways and stairs, and family rooms. It won’t make a carpet stain-proof, but it gives you more time to deal with accidents before they set in.

I’m moving out of a rented flat in Wandsworth. Will your carpet clean help me get my deposit back?

Much of the borough’s rental stock, especially the converted terraces and shared houses in Tooting, Balham and Earlsfield, changes hands every year, and carpets are one of the first things inventory clerks check. We focus on the hallways, bedrooms and high-traffic areas they look at, treat stains and odours, and can give you a receipt to show your landlord or agent. If your tenancy agreement asks for a professional carpet clean, let us know when you book.

Can you clean carpets in the apartment buildings in Battersea, Nine Elms and Putney?

Yes. Many of the newer blocks along the river, around Battersea Power Station and near Putney Bridge have a concierge desk, set hours for contractors and lift booking rules. Tell us the building name when you book, and we’ll confirm access, insurance documents and parking with the management office before the day. Our portable equipment fits in a standard lift, so we don’t need to run hoses through shared corridors.
