Typical drying time: up to 6 hours
Survey
We check the fibre, fitting and condition of each carpet and note any stains before we start. Furniture legs go onto protective pads and door frames are guarded.
Pre-treat
Dry soil is vacuumed out first, because water turns it to mud. A pre-spray matched to wool or synthetic fibre is applied and agitated in.
Hot water extraction
Remaining spots are treated individually, then the carpet is rinsed and extracted at controlled heat. A citrus deodoriser goes in with the final rinse.
Dry and finish
An air mover is left running to speed up drying and the pile is groomed in one direction. Scotchgard goes on now if you’ve asked for it.
Professional kit we use: Prochem, Host, RotoVac, Kärcher

Cleaning Carpets Across Islington
Islington packs a great deal of period housing into a small borough. The Georgian and early Victorian squares of Barnsbury and Canonbury, and the tall terraces around Highbury Fields, Holloway and Tufnell Park, still have many of their original long staircases. That usually means a wool or wool-mix stair runner over thirty-odd steps, held with rods or tacks and wearing hardest on the nosings and the turn of each landing. We clean these in place, top to bottom, with a pre-spray matched to wool so the pile doesn’t brown or shrink.
Much of the rest of the borough is flats. There are period houses converted decades ago, often with synthetic twists over old boards, no lift and a shared hallway to protect; mansion and estate blocks from Finsbury to Archway; and newer developments such as Highbury Square, built inside the old Arsenal stadium, or the warehouse conversions of Clerkenwell, with concierge access and fitted carpet in the bedrooms only. Whichever it is, the survey at the start of the visit is where we note fibre, fitting and access, before any water goes down.

Access and parking
Almost every street in Islington sits inside a controlled parking zone. Most operate on weekdays, some run into evenings and weekends, and the streets around the Emirates Stadium have extra restrictions on match days.
We’ll ask for a visitor permit when you book, or arrange a bay suspension for larger jobs. Where the van can’t park close, or for top-floor flats, we carry a portable extraction unit upstairs instead of running hoses from the street.

Canonbury
Canonbury’s Georgian and early Victorian squares – Canonbury Square, Alwyne Villas, Canonbury Park North – mean tall houses, fine wool carpets and long runners. We protect original joinery and clean hand-knotted rugs with a low-moisture method where dyes require it.
Carpet cleaning in CanonburyHighbury
Four- and five-storey Victorian terraces around Highbury Fields mean thirty-odd steps of wool runner, while converted villas on Highbury New Park and flats in Highbury Square bring synthetic carpet, shared hallways and concierge access to arrange.
Carpet cleaning in HighburyHighgate
Islington’s slice of Highgate, on the eastern slopes of Highgate Hill and around Whitehall Park, is steep and leafy. Large Victorian and Edwardian houses often have deep-pile wool carpets, and on the slopes we carry kit in by hand.
Carpet cleaning in HighgateHolloway
Holloway mixes Victorian terraces off Holloway Road and Camden Road with large council and housing association estates. That means hard-working family carpets, heavy hallway traffic and frequent tenancy changeovers, so end-of-tenancy cleans and stain removal are common requests.
Carpet cleaning in HollowayArchway and Tufnell Park
Around Archway and Tufnell Park, long Victorian terraces climb towards Highgate, many converted into upper-floor flats with steep, narrow stairs. We bring a portable extraction unit up rather than running hoses, and clean stairs and landings as one job.
Finsbury Park
On the Islington side of Finsbury Park, around Tollington Park and Blackstock Road, large Victorian houses are mostly split into flats and HMOs. Carpets see heavy use, so we often combine deep extraction with deodorising before new tenants move in.

Straight answers to the questions Islington customers ask most before booking a carpet clean.
Is professional carpet cleaning better than doing it yourself?
Many people don’t believe it, or don’t want to admit it, but you can never match the results of a professional carpet cleaner. First, you don’t have access to the specialised equipment and materials at our disposal. Second, we have spent years building our knowledge of the best techniques for carpet treatment. Third, you may deep-clean your carpet once a year – we do it every day.
How soon can I walk on my carpet after a treatment?
It depends on the method we’ve used. For steam washing (hot water extraction), allow up to six hours of drying time. Dry carpet cleaning rarely needs more than three hours. The weather matters too – carpets dry faster in sunny, warmer weather.
Is dry carpet cleaning better than steam washing?
It depends on the condition of the carpet and the issues we need to solve. Dry carpet cleaning is quicker and gives better results for surface treatment. If the carpet needs a deep clean, though, removing grime right down to the carpet pad, hot water extraction is by far the better method.
How often should I vacuum my carpets?
At least once a week – anything less does little good – and twice a week is much better. Don’t expect vacuuming alone to keep your carpets in top condition, however.
