I was only saying the other day how good, it makes me feel when all the house cleaning has been done and how I feel that, it releases all my happy hormones. Well, it did just that this morning. I got stuck in with a general good tidy and clean, including washing the kitchen floor. Hubby, bless him helped me by doing the vacuuming. With my happy hormones now released into my system, I was sitting very relaxed and enjoying my nice tidy home.
“Fancy a cup of coffee dear?” asked my hubby as he stood up.
“Hmm, that sounds good, thank you dear” I replied happily.
Two minuets later, there was a loud crash and painful yells coming from the kitchen.
I jumped up and flew (not literally) into the kitchen, to find my husband had knocked the freshly made cup of coffee over, and the contents had spilt all over the worktop, down the kitchen cupboard and all over the newly washed floor. Oh dear, it had even managed to go inside the cupboard and even reach the fridge on the other side of the room. In the background, I could hear hubby making the air blue with words I have never heard before.
“Grrrr. I’ve just washed this floor and cleaned everywhere!” I snarled.

“I didn’t do it on purpose,” he shouted. He had also spilt the coffee all down his jeans giving me another job to do.
We all have accidents I told myself, feeling a bit guilty and started to grab dishcloths to mop it all up. Between us, we got it cleared up but somehow it did not feel quite as clean as before and when hubby made me another cup of coffee, my hormones were not so happy.
Sometimes, in life, things do not always go to plan but worse things happen at sea.
I made sure I soaked the jeans in cold water first; as otherwise, the coffee stain would set and be harder to remove.
My coffee had sugar in it, which if you are not careful to remove all trace, it will make the floor sticky. There is nothing more annoying than a sticky flooring so give it a real good hard floor cleaning.
Kitchens can be a bad place to have accidents. A bad one I remember, is dropping a tin of tomatoes on my naked toes. It makes me go quite boss eyed just thinking about it. So, it makes sense to wear shoes or slippers in the kitchen.
I can also remember how I nearly caught myself alight whilst cooking and wearing a blouse with very flowy sleeves. Make sure everything is tucked away safely and no rude comments please!
I asked my hubby put his hand under the running cold tap to bring down the skin heat caused by the hot coffee, but luckily, he was OK. Just angry.
I always try to put large saucepans of stew or boiling vegetables at the back of the hob for safety reasons.
Always mop up spills, as a slippery floor can be very dangerous, especially if you are carrying a large hot saucepan at the time.
Try to keep children and pets out of the kitchen when you are busy cooking. Lots of danger here for little hands and paws.
Be very careful when handling knives and scissors as these could be very dangerous.
I think we should all try and not become one of the statistics you read about through accidents in the home.
By just slowing down a bit in the kitchen and taking a little more time to think about what you are doing could be life saving.
