The school was formed when the Kingston Day Commercial School and the Hinchley Wood Central School merged into one institute. The merger was fact in 1947, giving birth to the Hinchley Wood Country Secondary School, though the physical conglomeration of the schools’ buildings took place over many years. The new-formed school took over the two main buildings, as well as the ethos of providing commercial courses originally run by the Kingston School. The extension between the two facilities was built in the 60s and is now used for the school reception and administrative offices. Some of the Hinchley Wood School’s most noted alumni include: actor Edward Woodward; BBC journalist Rory Cellan-Jones; and Kay Searle, who is Deputy Editor of BC Six and Ten O’Clock News.
