Interesting Places in Langley Vale…
- The settlement was originally managed by several tenants before it became in effect a single farm, known as Langley Bottom Farm. The village name was changed to its current Langley Vale sometime in the 1930s because it was though the new name sounded more genteel. However the farm is still referred to as Langley Bottom Farm. It appears that, after the Black Death or at least after the 14th century, the settlement started to disappear from the map and its modern history dates from the late Victorian and early Edwardian times. The area of Langley Vale has always been associated with the racing industry, with many training stables being established within the village. Many of the locals were employed in the racing industry at that time, but unfortunately the stables almost disappeared and have been replaced by housing estates.
- According to a village legend, King Charles II had a hunting lodge at The Warren, in Langley Vale, though documents defining this suggestion has never been found, so far. However, there is a reference in a survey from the early 20th century to an area of The Warren dating from Charles II’s times, but it has not been positive about finding any mention about the hunting lodge.
